3 Easy Tips to Improve Grade 3 Reading Comprehension
Before your child begins this worksheet, try using these three strategies to maximize their learning:
- Find the Main Idea: After your child finishes reading a story, ask them to summarize what the story was about in just one or two sentences. This ensures they understand the “big picture” rather than just isolated details.
- Practice Inferencing: Grade 3 questions often ask why something happened, even if the text doesn’t explicitly say it. Encourage your child to use clues from the story combined with what they already know to figure out the answer.
- Highlight the Evidence: If your child is struggling with a multiple-choice question, ask them to go back into the text and literally point to the sentence that proves their answer is correct.
